“The Lanka – Japan Friendship Society organized a press conference On 1st March 2016 at the Monara Restaurant, Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management, Galle Rd., Colombo 3 ,to launch “Japanese week” from 11 to 19th March 2016 to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the society. The press and electronic media were well represented. The President Mr. Sumana Liyanage, Project Chairman Dr. Sujeewa Suriyarachchi, Mr. Masaki Takaoka, 1st Secretary of the Japanese Embassy, representatives of the Japanese Solidarity Association, and the members of the head table and the individual Project Chairmen briefed the media on the Projects to be executed during Japanese week namely: The Gala Reception and dinner at the Hotel Galadari on 11th March 2016, Issuing of a commemorative 60th Anniversary souvenir, screening of A video clip on the activities of the LJFS, publication of the revised Membership directory, sponsoring of Japanese language scholarships To needy students, arranging of a memorial service at the Gangarama Temple on 13 March 2016 to bestow merit on those who passed away at the Great Eastern Tsunami, Japan on 11th March 2011, & organizing of a Health Camp at the Sedawatte Purana Viharaya Kelaniya on 19th March 2016. A newspaper supplement will also be published on 11th March 2016.”
